Will Mark Ballas be the big man in town? Entertainment Tonight has reported that the Dancing with the Stars fave will not be joining season 23 of ABC's fancy-footed reality series because he will be taking on "a main role" in the Broadway smash Jersey Boys.
Ballas took to Twitter earlier this week, saying "I'll miss competing and creating outside the box. However, I am looking forward to this new chapter and venture that is beginning shortly." A Jersey Boys spokesperson had no comment about Ballas joining the Tony-winning jukebox musical.
Ballas has been with DWTS for the past 18 seasons. As a choreographer, he was Emmy-nominated for his work in season 12 of the series. As an actor, his credits include the musical Copacabana, the U.K. National Tour of Maria de Buenos Aires and Buddy, The Buddy Holly Musical, which won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical. Onscreen, he has guest-starred on Melissa and Joey and Samantha Who?.
The production currently stars Michael Lomenda as Nick Massi, Richard H. Blake as Tommy DeVito and Quinn VanAntwerp as Bob Gaudio. Mauricio Pérez and Dominic Scaglione Jr. alternate in the role of Frankie Valli.
